The origin of Women's Day

Women’s Day, also known as International Working Women’s Day (IWD), originated from a series of socialist feminist movements in the early 20th century. Specifically, on March 8, 1909, women in Chicago, USA held a large-scale strike and demonstration in order to fight for equal rights such as suffrage, employment and education. This action has received global attention and support and has become the starting point of the international women's movement. In order to commemorate this historical event, the Second International Conference on Socialist Women held in Copenhagen, Denmark in August 1910 decided that March 8 is Women's Day every year.
